About Pathways SC
Who we are, how donations are handled, and our legal and business disclosures.
Who we are
Pathways SC is a nonprofit organization based in Lexington, South Carolina, that raises funds and awareness for children battling critical illnesses and their families across the state. Our programs include Bike4Life, Colors 4 A Cause, and community events.
Business registration
Pathways SC is organized as a nonprofit entity under the laws of the State of South Carolina. [Confirm and insert: exact legal name, entity type (e.g., nonprofit corporation), and South Carolina registration / file number.]
Tax status and EIN
Pathways SC has applied for federal tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. [Insert your EIN once issued or confirmed, e.g., "EIN: XX-XXXXXXX." If exempt status is still pending, note that here and remove this sentence once approved.]
Donations to Pathways SC may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. We recommend consulting your own tax advisor regarding the deductibility of any gift.
Donation disclosures
- Online donations are processed securely by Stripe. Card details never touch our servers.
- Every donor receives an email receipt that serves as a written charitable contribution acknowledgment. For gifts of $250 or more, the IRS requires donors to have a written acknowledgment from the charity to substantiate the deduction; our receipt states the amount and confirms that no goods or services were provided in exchange. Keep it with your tax documents.
- Suggested uses attached to a donation (such as a dedication or honor message) do not restrict how the organization applies funds unless explicitly agreed in writing.
- Donations are voluntary contributions to a nonprofit and are non-refundable. If you believe a charge was made in error (for example, a duplicate transaction), please contact us at hannah.pathwayssc@gmail.com and we will review it. Recurring gifts can be cancelled at any time through Stripe or by emailing us.
Sponsors and vendors
Sponsorship and vendor relationships on this website are commercial partnerships. Listing a sponsor does not constitute an endorsement of their products or services by Pathways SC, and vice versa.
Sponsorships are structured as qualified sponsorship payments. Pathways SC does not sell advertising. When a business sponsors us, it receives recognition of its support — such as acknowledgment on our website or at events — but no substantial goods or services and no promotion of its products, services, or brand. This structure allows the full payment to be treated as a charitable contribution rather than an advertising expense.
Every sponsor receives a written acknowledgment letter that lists the recognition and benefits included with their sponsorship, confirms that no goods or services were provided in exchange beyond that acknowledgment, and includes our EIN and 501(c)(3) status. Please retain it for your tax records and consult your own tax advisor regarding how to treat your sponsorship on your taxes. Our IRS determination letter is available on request — just ask us and we will send you a copy.
Sales tax
As a nonprofit organization, Pathways SC is generally not required to collect sales tax on charitable contributions. If we sell goods or tickets subject to South Carolina sales tax in the future, we will collect and remit it accordingly and disclose that on the relevant page.
